In this episode of The Forgotten Flix Podcast, we travel back to a time when men were men and squids were squids! That’s right, we’re going down the line with Jack Deth in 1985’s Trancers!
Written and directed by Charles Band and starring Tim Thomerson and Helen Hunt, this low-budget, sci-fi- neo-noir classic (and it’s 5 sequels) was a staple at video stores throughout the 80s and 90s.
In Trancers, Tim Thomerson plays trooper Jack Deth, who’s sole mission in life is bringing down the mind-controlled minions (whom Jack lovingly refers to as “squids” because of their weak minds) of a big bad named Whistler. Believing Whistler is dead, Jack decides to call it quits as a Trancer hunter.
But Jack’s days as a retiree are cut short when it’s revealed that Whistler is alive and well and living 300 years in the past. Whistler has traveled to Los Angeles in 1985 on a mission to eliminate the ancestors of his enemies. Sort of a Terminator/John Connor scenario en masse.
So, Jack reluctantly agrees to pursue Whistler into the past, but when he catches the psychotic S.O.B., Jack plans delivering justice… Deth style!
