Make the Movie Connection in Six Degrees (or less): “It’s Faaaaaaaantastic”

Gauntlets are being thrown down out there.

And by gauntlets I mean Mags finishing her link with Frank Oz as Animal’s keeper.  Keep warming up everyone.  This is still the preseason.  In a few weeks we will begin the first Six Degrees Tournament.

More details to come, but first . . .

If you read my bio below you will see that while I am in love with the movies, I also am a complete basketball nerd.  So, finding myself knee deep in the NBA playoffs, let’s go with a little pro basketball theme.

Take us from Michael Jordan to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Bonus points for linking them through Dr. J (using the Fish that Saved Pittsburgh, not Philadelphia).  Double bonus points for using Alex English (and the movie Amazing Grace and Chuck).  Triple bonus points for only using NBA players.

Let’s see what you got!

Dave Umbricht loves his family, movies and the NBA (in that order). His unexplainable, genetic attraction to movies flourished in the early ’80s thanks to Siskel and Ebert. It’s also believed Dave was the only 8-year-old to know of My Dinner with Andre, even though he didn’t see it until he was 28. In the ’90s he wrote three awful screenplays, including next summer’s Cowboys and Aliens (or at least a script with the same title). He still can’t dunk a basketball.

  1. Curse my englishness girlieness! The only thing I know about Basketball is what I learned from Teenwolf 🙂

So this is a really crap link (and I had to use a TV show as well) … Michael Jordan was in Space Jam with Bill Murray, who was in Royal Tenenbaums with Gene Hackman, who was in Missippi Burning with Willem Dafoe, who was in Platoon with John C McGinley, who was Dr Cox in Scrubs, which once featured a cameo (I think)from Kareen Abudul-Jaffar….?

  2. Jordan was in Space Jam with Bill Murray, Murray was in What About Bob with Julie Haggerty, and Julie Haggerty was in Airplane! with Kareem Abdul-Jabaar.

I couldn’t think of a connection involving Alex English, but may be back 😉

    • Okay, well, I’ve been thinking and I cannot do this within six degrees, so maybe if I throw this out there someone can shorten the list down… I can make the connection to Alex English from Jordan to Murray (Space Jam), Murray to Bill Paxton (Stripes), Paxton to Jamie Lee Curtis (True Lies… great title given Arnold’s troubles), Curtis to Alex English (Amazing Grace and Chuck), English to William Peterson (same movie), Peterson to Stephen Lang (Manhunter… speak of the devil!) Lang to Martin Sheen (Gettysburg) Sheen to Lloyd Bridges (Hot Shots Part Deux) and Bridges to Kareem Abdul Jabaar in Airplane (can you tell I like Airplane?)

I know, that’s way too long.

    • Hi Russell, Well played man! That’s definitely the course I chose for this one.
