RMG 056 – Soul Man (1986)

February 22, 2017

In this episode, the Retro Movie Geek crew along with special guest Vince are geeking out over Soul Man (1986) and we’re talking about

  • well-intentioned prejudice
  • funny offensive vs. unfunny offensive
  • what it means to get funky… really… truly… funky
  • and much, much more!

Synopsis:

Mark Watson is a happy young man, who just got into Harvard Law School. He sees a bright future ahead of him and everything seems to be going his way… that is, until his dad decides to spend Mark’s college fund on something else!

Mark is now desperate, and too lazy to work, but while looking through the ads, finds what he’s looking for… a fully-paid scholarship! Only problem is… it’s for African American students! He doesn’t see this as too much of an obstacle though, and an overdose on experimental tanning pills, and a change of hairstyle later… Mark is now black!
