RMG 067: Runaway (1984)

May 10, 2017

In this episode, the Retro Movie Geek crew are geeking out over Runaway (1984) and

  • the ‘stache
  • leering
  • malfunctioning robot
  • and much, much more!

Synopsis:

In the near future, robots are as common as any household appliance… and just like those, they regularly break down, or malfunction! This is where the “Runaway Squad” comes in, a division in the police force that specializes in robotics! It’s considered an easy job, and like Jack Ramsay tells his new partner, Karen, most of the time it just involves throwing a switch!

That is… until domestic robots turn “homicidal” and start killing people!

Ramsay and his team discover that the robots have been tampered with, and this eventually leads them to a sociopathic genius named Luther. He’s intent on mass-producing a special kind of circuit, or chip, that will enable household robots to attack humans… but Ramsay gets a hold of some of the templates Luther needs for this, and now things turn nasty!

Luther will stop at nothing to get them back, so he sets his sight on Ramsay’s young son, to make him return the templates, and now the clock is ticking!
