January 5, 2022

In this episode, the Retro Movie Geek crew is geeking out over Miller’s Crossing (1990) and

  • it being a different type of gangster movie
  • the great cast
  • girlfriends and sick people
  • the look of the movie
  • and much, much more!

Synopsis:

Filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen create a complex and graphic vision of gangsterism, set in the wide-open days of Prohibition, and featuring a riveting rogues-gallery of killers and con men.

Propelled by gripping action, an intense, twisting plot and stunning cinematography, “Miller’s Crossing” perfectly re-creates the look and feel of a time when underworld warfare ripped apart urban America.

Leo is the benevolent Irish gangster and political boss who rule an Eastern city with the help of Tom, his trusted lieutenant and counselor. But their control of the town is challenged by an over-reaching Italian underboss and his ruthless henchman. Just as this threat erupts, Leo and Tom have a falling out over the same woman.

Tom, caught in the jaws of a gangland power struggle, walks a deadly tightrope as he tries to control and manipulate its violent outcome.
